Split Bamboo Charcoal for H20 Purification and more!- 1 oz.
Our split bamboo charcoal is long and lean and easily removable after use in your water bottle. Filter your tap water in the H20 Vessel of your choice. Bamboo charcoal is excellent for water purification and gives your water a clean, natural taste.
Description
One ounce of our bamboo charcoal is included with one purchase. Product amount varies by size. You can expect between 5-8 pieces of charcoal varying in size between 6-8 inches long, up to 1/2 inch wide and up to 1/4 of an inch thick in your order.
Our split bamboo charcoal is created using local Carolina bamboo, sourced from responsibly-managed bamboo groves. We create it on our South Carolina property using a handmade, clay and brick retort/kiln named “Charry-Boo” (As seen in the eighth photo, below).
Bamboo charcoal is a refreshingly simple and natural way of filtering tap water. During the purification process, impurities and unpleasant trace elements found in tap water will bind to the split bamboo charcoal pieces after two to three hours. High quality bamboo charcoal acts as a sponge and absorbs impurities into its pores. An added benefit of using bamboo charcoal for water purification is that it slowly releases minerals such as potassium and magnesium into the water and softens it.
Instructions For Use:
1. Use a minimum of five pieces of our bamboo charcoal in 1 gallon of water.
2. Wash your charcoal in running water to remove any fine powder (do not use any cleaning agents).
3. Boil in water for 10 minutes for sterilization.
4. Allow the charcoal to cool and dry.
5. Place your charcoal in your water vessel and fill with tap water (charcoal may float at first but will often sink after about one week of use).
6. Leave your charcoal in the water for 8 hours or more for best results. We recommend leaving it in your refrigerator overnight.
7. Re-sterilize your charcoal once a week by repeating step 3.
8. Replace with new charcoal after 2 months of use.
Activated charcoal can be created by placing your charcoal in direct sunlight. You may hear a clicking/tinkling sound as your charcoal absorbs heat and the pores open up. You may also enjoy using our bamboo charcoal as a facial mask by grinding it and mixing it into a paste with water and other optional ingredients such as aloe and bentonite clay. Customers have also reported using it for watercolor painting. An internet search will show you many other uses for bamboo charcoal. Thank you for your interest in our products!
IMPORTANT!
Bamboo charcoal is fragile. We will make every effort to protect your charcoal from breakage during shipping, but cannot guarantee that it will arrive whole. No worries, though! Smaller pieces of bamboo charcoal can be used in the same manner as the larger pieces. As a matter of fact, most of our customers report the joy they find in snapping their split bamboo charcoal into smaller sizes.
If you choose to filter a large amount of water with your bamboo charcoal, you may want to consider purchasing a spout with a filter to catch any loose particles, unless you don’t mind “floaters” in your water 🙂 These can be purchased individually online and can replace the spout included with your large water vessel.
After two months of use, or when you’re ready to replace your charcoal: Reference the final image document in this product listing for other uses for your bamboo charcoal, such as soil amendment and odor absorption.
