“KUDBOO” with Nancy Basket

A length of kudzu cordage (made by Aaron) inside one of Nancy Basket’s famous Pine Needle Baskets.

Yesterday, we visited a living legend in the primitive skills community, Ms. Nancy Basket, at her home in Walhalla, SC.

Nancy is a proponent for working with Kudzu! Watch out now! Kudzu and bamboo are teaming up! 😆🎋✨️

Nancy teaches (you guessed it), basket weaving and paper making with another of nature’s very giving (invasive) plants. She has built a career around finding ways to utilize another of Mother Nature’s overabundant creations.

Aaron brought samples of his bamboo baskets and gave a short splitting demonstration to show Nancy how he makes splits for his baskets. Nancy taught Aaron how to harvest kudzu and make cordage and weaving material for basketry.

Nancy always imparts a valuable amount of wisdom and guidance along with a story from the Native Cherokee heritage pertinent to conversation.

We left with homework… Aaron must make a “KudBoo” basket before his return visit.

Thank you, Nancy, for welcoming us to your home and for sharing your support and wisdom with Carolina Bamboo! ❤️♥️❤️♥️
